Scientists Honored for Water Innovation at Saudi Conference

At the third Innovation-Driven Water Sustainability Conference in Jeddah, scientists were recognized for their advancements in desalination and wastewater treatment technologies. The event, attended by 480 experts and 40 organizations from 20 countries, highlighted global efforts in water sustainability.

The prestigious Global Prize for Innovation in Desalination 2024 was awarded to Lee Nuang Sim of Nanyang Technological University for his centrifugal reverse osmosis project, and Sue Mecham, CEO of NALA Membranes, for her work on chlorine-stable membranes for desalination and wastewater reuse.

Saudi researcher Ghadeer Al-Balawi from the University of Tabuk also won for her project on improving wastewater treatment in Saudi Arabia.

The conference, attended by senior officials, emphasizes the Kingdom’s commitment to fostering innovation for water sustainability. It will feature over 180 research papers and a water hackathon.
