Louvre Abu Dhabi’s origins trace back to March 2007 when the UAE and France forged a groundbreaking cultural partnership. This collaboration aimed to blend the UAE’s progressive vision of cultural openness with France’s renowned expertise in art and museums. The centerpiece of this partnership was the creation of Louvre Abu Dhabi on Saadiyat Island, designed to explore themes that connect and reveal the shared aspects of humanity. Louvre Abu Dhabi embodies the dynamic spirit of the contemporary Arab world while honoring the region’s rich multicultural heritage. Agence France-Muséums, representing 17 of France’s leading cultural institutions, oversees the loan of artworks and provides essential management to the museum.
